Arohanui is a new emerging service that has gained momentum. Arohanui was started by a small group who recognised a gap in the service delivery for people with a disability in the Te Puke areas.
Two parents within this group had children leaving school and were faced with the possibility of there being no local service available to meet their needs.
Other than sheltered workshop type settings there were no other choices that offered a range of activities that provided stimulation, exploration and expansion of skills through arts and creative mediums.
Arohanui Art & Education Trust was formed to provide a service in the Te Puke and Greerton communities for young people with a disability who were leaving the school environment.
Since that time Arohanui has experienced steady growth with an increased demand for services. In 2006 Arohanui opened another service in Tauranga with 5 people and this has quickly grown to 15 people.
Arohanui Trust has a Vision that:
"Arohanui will provide services for people with a disability within New Zealand that will reflect individual needs through programmes and community based options that will enable people to reach their full potential".
